Friendship is one of the best parts of life, but when a friend moves away or your lives get busier, it can become more difficult to make time for each other. National Bestfriend Day, coming up on June 8th, is a great time to celebrate your bestie, no matter how far apart you live! We’ve come up with five great ways to spend time together from a distance.

  1. Send a self-care package

In our current fast-paced world, it can feel difficult to slow down and take time for ourselves. Sometimes everyone needs a reminder that self-care isn’t selfish. To encourage your friend to celebrate their beautiful self, send them a self-care package! Care packages can contain things like a calming candle, a CBD bath bomb, pictures of the good times and, their favorite tea. You know your bestie best, so add anything that you think will remind your friend how special they are. Find a cute box to put everything in or decorate your own! Add tips for relaxation, reminders of how great they are, and anything else that will encourage your bestie to take a moment for themselves.

You’ll need:

  1. A cute box or decorating supplies (tissue paper, stickers, glitter glue)
  2. Your friend’s favorite way to practice self-care
  3. Your friend’s address.  Pro tip: to make it a surprise ask your friend’s roommates or parents for the address.

  1. Skype Trivia night

This one works best with a group of people so round up your friends and prepare to wow them with your obscure knowledge. Choose one or two people to be the trivia master and have them find trivia questions online or write their own. Create teams or go it alone, set a timer for each question, and text your answers to the trivia master. To up the stakes, choose a prize for the winner such as free coffee next time you’re all together or a back massage from the loser.

You’ll need:

  1. A group of friends with one or two designated trivia masters
  2. Prepared questions, separated into themed rounds if desired.
  3. A timer that everyone can see or hear
  4. An agreed-upon prize for the winner

  1. Send a Letter.

The art of letter writing, though not as prevalent as it once was, is certainly not dead. It can be a fun way to let someone know you were thinking of them in a way that feels more special than simply sending a text or email. Make a homemade card with

watercolors or choose the perfect one from a store. To make it even more personal, include little gifts like stickers, pressed flowers,

 orfriendship bracelets.

In your letter, you can reminisce about old times, plan for when you’ll see each other again and share what’s going on in your life. You may find that writing a letter allows you to slow down and think about what you really want to say to your best friend and what they really mean to you.

You’ll need:

  1. Paper and supplies for decorating the envelope (try watercolors, pens, or stickers)
  2. A stamp. Be sure to look up the postage requirements for long-distance mail if applicable.
  3. Pictures, friendships bracelets, or other fun mementos
  4. Their address!

  1. Skype movie night

Grab some popcorn, agree on a movie (it’s easier said than done), and get cozy together over video chat. There are plenty of video chatting services out there so choose your favorite and have the perfect long-distance movie night with your bestie. Add to the fun by making it a movie marathon and choosing a theme. Wear costumes, make special snacks, and even talk in accents.

You’ll need:

  1. A video chatting service
  2. Your favorite movie or movies
  3. Snacks, costumes, and anything else that will make the night special

  1. Long-distance dance party

If you can’t go out with your friend, bring the dance party home! Do your makeup together over video, help choose your outfits (fashion show anyone?), and make drinks together! When you’re all ready to “go out” blast some music and get dancing! Sync your music up to pretend you’re really dancing together or play your own song with each other on mute to groove your own way.

You’ll need:

  1. A video chatting service
  2. Your favorite outfit
  3. Some killer dance moves

However you choose to celebrate, we hope you have a wonderful day sharing love and memories with your best friend! Be sure to come back soon for more ideas on how to create fun this summer!
